I don't understand why this movie is critically acclaimed. Honestly, I hated it. I hated almost everything about it, including the lame ending. The only redeeming quality was the lead actress, she is gorgeous. But still, I can't say anything that good about it.
A near perfect, disturbing movie.
A quiet, well-crafted piece of film-making that creates a powerful tension in the viewer throughout. A well-executed blending of memories and present experiences keeps the film engaging despite relatively little action. Martha Marcy May Marlene consistently defies expectations, succumbing to no predictable plot elements even when you fear it might. Performances are all great.
A very boring movie which I kept fastforwarding through. I should have paid attention when the NY Times did not recommend this film.
Both DVD players I have couldn't read my copy of this. I'm wondering if it is damaged?
Does what it set out to do very well, though not a particularly enjoyable ride.
film about PTSD. Very very creepy, realistic, about Manson- like cult. This is the real version, not the sensationalized, glossy media version. it's slow film making -- not the hollywood junk food version which moves you at warp speed with jerky cuts through the creepy parts so you feel a sugar rush of adrenaline (the thrill of the hunter?) This film portrays the p.o.v. of the hunted. Not nearly as fun as being the predator.
A quietly powerful and disturbing film, this is definitely not for everyone. But for those who can stomach the uncomfortable subject matter, it's worth the journey. (And guess what, one of the Olsen sisters can actually act!)
