a good take on how it all began. i felt like they could have included a bit more emotion, but really they stuck to the planet of the apes style, and it worked.

Beautiful imagery that makes you forget that those aren't apes at all, but rather people in motion capture. Excellent graphics aside, the narrative is endearing to animal-lovers and, more importantly, structured well with enough references back to the original film without ostracizing newcomers to the long-line of Planet of the Apes flicks. Recommended for all sorts -- guys, gals, drama-lovers, action-lovers... The list goes on.

I am old enough to have been around and aware when the first movie, starring Charlton Heston, premiered. But I didn't watch my first POTA movie til the Mark Wahlberg-starring remake. Still, I was lukewarm. But this installment has made everything make sense, and has made me care. Good movie. Yes, wonderful special effects. But the central ape character, Caesar, is noble, tragic, and compelling, I agree, that this movie stands on its own, apart from the others in the series. Very good performances from James Franco and John Lithgow, as well.
