You can certainly hear Woody Allen's writing throughout, for which he won an Oscar for original screenplay.

Was surprised at how much I loved this movie! Seeing all of the literary and artistic rock stars in one place - from the Fitzgeralds and Gertrude Stein to Picasso and Hemingway -was such a buzz!!! It was very disconcerting to hear Woody Allen's unmistakable voice and chronic second-guessing of self coming out of Owen Wilson's mouth! But what a wonderful idea for a movie! Would watch it again. Have never seen Paris so beautifully rendered in film before. The opening sequence is just magical!

I really enjoyed this movie! Especially the moments in the past and the portrayl of Ernest Hemmingway and many other writers. It was charming and delightful :)

2 stars because it is harmless and easy on the eyes. As if a computer was told...film a Woody Allen movie set in Paris. The script is so predictable. Owen is a stand in for Woody even wearing the same wrinkled pants and shirt. His fiance and her parents are simple cardboard characters.

Very charming, it feels quite like one would imagine Paris should (or did, or does!). My only complaint was Owen Wilson, of whom I am NOT a fan, but other than that it was lovely to watch.

A homage to Paris in the 1920s, and yet just as much an ode to it today. I wouldn't watch it again, but it wasn't necessarily a bad watch. It has that sense of the "new Woody Allen", which seems to be all nuanced relationships set in European cities (for example, Vicky Cristina Barcelona and the upcoming To Rome With Love). And Midnight in Paris fits that pattern. It has a message, sure, but I can't understand why a film like this penetrated the Oscar nominee list. I understand Woody Allen is a frequent nominee, but I don't think it had better writing than, say, Bridesmaids. And yet it won the Original Screenplay award. Oh, well, that's got me stumped. Enjoyed the score to the opening sequence; very much stuck in one's head.

Woody Allen has his moments of wit, this isn't one of them. After we finished it I tried to defend my husband's 'that was a complete waste of time' with 'but it was a good message about needing to live their own lives in the present.' He aptly replied, 'yeah, but you could get that from reading the back.' Good point. And no amount of rubbing shoulders with iconic minds of the 20's can improve upon that blurb.

Boring! I'd rather watch Jack and Jill or The Love Guru!
